Penal Reform International and Thailand Institute of Justice's joint 2018 report on Global Prison Trends analyses both the trends in criminal justice and the use of imprisonment around the world. The report has consistently shown that while overall crime rates around the world have declined, the number of people in prison on any given day is actually rising.
